Poojitha and I have sat down for a couple of different brainstorming sessions to bring together some of the larger ideas around creating spaces for exchange at CSM. The outline of the major concepts is below. We have been meeting weekly with Liam Green, Creative Producer: College Culture & Community, to discuss these ideas and to move towards partnering on some of these concepts.
In particular, Liam is interested in activating the Platform Bar with programming, as well as working towards a Skill-Share week. We are hoping we can plan and execute 1-2 events together before the end of the year.
1. Open Network
- Digital information-sharing space
- “Canvas-lite” for students
- Currently mapping out current information networks
- Poojitha Changemakers project
2. Open House for Departments: In programme spaces
- For Students to see physical spaces
- Opportunity to meet students/staff of different departments/programmes
- Potentially workshops/interactive elements
- Currently happening for prospective students
3. Skill-Share Week: in the street
- Students share directly with each other
- Departments/Programmes have a presence
- Currently happens before the term at CCW as “Skillz Week”
3.5 ”Hub for Exchange”
- Similar but not concentrated in one specific time: an ongoing series
- Both of these might have the support of Knowledge Exchange (KE)
4. Specific Lectures Opened School-wide
- Content/Approach doesn’t need to change
- Sharing specific lectures from different classes/departments
- Could begin with online sharing of content / broadcast
- Could be part of a “Visible Lecture Series”
5. Welcome Week: learn about facilities in CSM / learn about different colleges
- Opportunity to see facilities in own/different colleges
- Tours for current students
6. CSM Post-Grad get-together/Social
- Post-Grad Community Events mandated to be UAL-wide
7. Platform Bar Programming
- Open-mic/STUMPED/Project sharing, etc
- Could be trialed with a CSM Post-Grad event
- Run by Events, Ollie Gregory
